2016
What a year it has been. It is perhaps fair to say that the second half of the year was more successful than the first. Whilst the 2nd and 3rd XI finished the 2015/16 season strongly, promotion couldn't be achieved, and after a good start with the Indoor 2nd XI's victory, Roses 2016 ended in disappointment on home soil. However, with a very strong fresher intake, the new academic year has been very successful so far. Only one loss in the league with the rest of the games producing wins, as well as the establishment of a Development Squad, means that LUMHC are looking good heading in to 2017. The club is expanding rapidly, and the potential growth is exciting for everyone involved. To celebrate such an eventful year, we thought it apt to hand out some awards in commemoration.

Overseas Sports Personality
Nominees:
James, Bishop Burton 1st XI Captain
Laurie Horn, LUMHC fan favourite
Nancy from Table 2
Winner: Blastoise/Specs
With a strong social performance throughout the calendar year, Blastoise has become a firm LUMHC favourite. The LUMHC way chose him when the friend of Hadyn and Duncan ended up in A&E after his first social. Far from be put off by it, this only confirmed Specs' love of LUMHC socials, and he hasn't looked back since then.

Lifetime achievement award
Winner: Cletus. A giant of the game, whose presence transcended the whole club. Taken from us far too soon, his legacy is clear to see in the club, even such a short time after his passing. A ceremony to retire his shirt number is currently being organised with LUSU and the Univeristy Chancellor. Forever in our thoughts, he will be sorely missed in 2017, perhaps even more so than he was in 2016.
Team of the year
Nominees:
1st XI
2nd XI
3rd XI
Development Squad
JustPlay
Chester Women's 1st XI
Winner: Bishop Burton 1st XI. Whilst the LUMHC 1st XI have had a good start to this season, their achievements pale in comparison to the sporting excellence that is achieved by Eileen, Alvin and co down in East Yorkshire. Whilst some may describe their approach as agricultural, the results that they have produced, including the aforementioned screamer by Alvin against the LUMHC 2nd XI, indicate otherwise, as they have scythed through every single challenger during the year of 2016.

RIP Our Prince
2017
The first half of this season has been prmoising, but will mean nothing if promotion isn't achieved for all three teams. That will lay the platform for a successful Roses 2017, with York caught off guard by how far the club has improved since 2016. All in all, a lot to look forward to in the New Year, on and off the pitch. Thanks for making 2016 such a great year, more of the same in 2017 please.
