24/10/18 Glasgow BUCS Cup Game

24/10/18 Glasgow university men's 1's at Fort Lancaster

It was a lovely warm autumnal day with no hint of rain, perhaps this is why Glasgow struggled.
When Glasgow decided to finally turn up, just before the pushback time they were welcomed onto the pitch with a beautiful rendition of "o' Flower of Scotland" by several members of the LUMHC side. The 1 XI were well supported with many members of the 2's and 3's down to watch the boys send the kilt-wearing Haggis eaters back over the border with naught but tears in their eyes.

Glasgow opened the scoring with a top bins biff, that keeper Adam had no chance of saving. Lancs got back though with some beautiful play round the back building to a deflection goal by Bob. The first half was very tight with play toing and froing to either D. Glasgow got another goal when an attacker was left unmarked on the back post, giving them a nice sweaty goal. But Lancs weren't done, struck back with another goal just before half time, put in by Tom/Pete, from a lovely short corner routine that had the goalie floundering. And with that the game was 2-2 at half time.

The entire second half was hard fought, with brilliant runs and passes being made by both sides. Fletch worked the right side well, making Triangles with Tom in the center. The Lancaster goal came when Penney put the ball on a Glasgow foot in their D, giving Lancaster a short corner, which was put away by Gas. Glasgow soon retaliated getting a short corner of their own. So Lancs decided to put another goal past the Glasgow goalie to make it 4-3 Lancaster. Bob managed to hide partway up the pitch without being noticed, and after a Glasgow short a beautiful long ball by Canrod found it's way to him, but he just couldn't beat the keeper in a 1v1, and for this he got DOD. Glasgow weren't happy, and managing to overwhelm Phil with 4 players they just squeezed the ball Past Adam.  4-4 with around 13 mins to go, the winner would be playing Edinburgh away. After some brilliant midfield play Lancaster got another short with bin biffing the ball into a Glasgow hand and foot. The short was put away by Gas' amazing Drag flick ( Faaaaast ). Putting the score to 5-4 Lancaster. Glasgow got desperate, but couldn't get any ground as Resolute captain Mel called a half court press to stem the tide of the heathens advance. Vk-47 got the ball in the corner and held it there for several minutes, which was very tough considering he had 3 players in his pockets. With all that the 1 XI brought the game to it's conclusion, but not before a last minute ending short corner for Glasgow, awarded for a Lancs foot in the D. Bob sped out of the goal, putting the flicker off, and Penney was there to send the ball flying out of the D to secure the Lancaster win.

MOM: Penney, for his amazing all round play
DOD: Bob, for failing to score in a 1V1 with the keeper
