LUHC keep on rolling
Another excellent day of hockey was concluded on Wednesday by everybody's favourite hockey club, LUMHC. The 2nd XI get the proverbial ball rolling with their game against promotion rivals Man 4s. Having lost twice last year to the same team, the 2s knew that a win would put them in pole position in the chase for promotion in Division 4A. A commanding first half performance saw the boys take a 2-0 lead, with Chris and Bowyer getting their names on the scoresheet. A tight second half performance saw the game played entirely in the Manchester half, unfortunately without reward for the 2s. Nevertheless, they emerged with a valuable 2-0 win. Perhaps best for the 2s is the fact that they are comfortably winning games, without performing anyway near their best ability. Whilst this performance was a marked improvement on the week before, there are still many areas to improve on for the 2s.
Meanwhile, the 3rd XI got their second win in two games against fellow title contenders Chester 1s. Bellend made sure that the game started off in the best possible fashion for the Pride, with a goal after a minute. Ben Mackerel then managed to put the nightmares of his trip to A&E behind him, to grab the second goal before half-time. The lead could have been extended in the second half, but the full Thyme (if you know, you know) whistle blew with the score still at 2-0, meaning the Pride are yet to concede a goal.
The LUWHC 1st and 3rd XI were next onto the pitches at the Fortress. A strong first half performance from the 1s saw them take a 2-0 lead into half-time, only for their opponents to equalise with a few minutes left. Backed by a raucous home crowd, a last minute penalty corner was acrobatically steered into the net by Chelsea, to spark wild celebrations on the sidelines. Meanwhile on Astro 2, the 3rd XI put in a stirring comeback to emerge 2-1 victors after being one goal down at half time. Coach Chrissy's half time team talk was obviously a decisive factor in this victory.
Last but by no means least were the 1st XI. After two comfortable victories to start off the BUCS campaign, visitors UCLan offered much stiffer opposition. A topsy-turvy first half saw an own goal by the UCLan keeper and a Dynamo deflection cancel out UCLan's attempts at taking the lead. The 1st XI's fitness and strength in depth came into play in the second half, with a much stronger performance. Max, Ham and Chaz slotted in for the hosts to mean that the 1s maintained their position at the top of the table with a 5-3 win in a thrilling local derby.
All in all, another terrific day of hockey for LUHC. Huge congrats to LUWHC who also gained 3 wins from 3. We are still the only team left on campus with a 100% BUCS record. Keep rolling boys and girls!
