Disappointing results; good performances
Roses 2016 was hosted at home in Lancaster, LUMHC looked to avoid a repeat of 2015's whitewash. The weekend started out positively on Friday with the Indoor Hockey. Chaz scored a last minute penalty flick to secure one of the most dramatic victories in LUMHC history for the Indoor 2nd Team to start the weekend off in the most positive fashion possible. Unfortunately this was about as good as it would get in results terms. The Indoor 1st Team put up a good fight but ultimately came unstuck, leaving the scores tied at 1-1 after the first day.
Saturday started off poorly, with the 3rd XI getting outclassed by their opponents from York, losing 6-0 in the end. After a strong BUCS campaign, the 2nd XI were looking to avenge their 12-0 mauling at Roses 2015. However, 2 early York goals meant that even though they controlled the game, the 2nd XI couldn't break through a tough York defence, as the game ended with a third unanswered York goal. Unfortunately, the 1st XI didn't fare much better. Defending stoutly and looking dangerous on the counter resulted in one of their best performances of the season, but two late York goals meant that the White Rose emerged victorious from every outdoor game.
Having not scored an outdoor goal for 2 years, that is an obvious place for improvement for next year. Signs of improvement are definitely there, particularly for the 2nd and 3rd XI, who will retain pretty much exactly the same squad for next year.
