By Gaston
The 1st XI started the match seeking a 9th win in a row with the possibility of jumping into 3rd place in the Saturday league if results went their way. With fans coming from all around the country to watch this mid table clash Lancaster wanted to put on a show. The first goal was scored by Lancaster after a matter of minutes with their fast ball pace too quick for Preston to adjust to early on. The goal came with Pete taking up Dynamo’s roll as chief deflector as he touched in to give Lancaster the lead.
Feeling sorry for his opponents, Gaston gladly gave the ball to the Preston forward, after some solid defence in the same move Preston finally poked the ball under The Creeper to equalise. Preston sought to take the lead and won a short but the shot went wide giving Lancaster a 16 which was quickly take. Buster carried the ball into the Preston half and smashed it forward to an eagerly anticipating Pete waiting patiently to chip over the keeper. After this Preston’s heads went down and Lancaster played some of their best hockey of the season, transferring the ball rapidly and creating opportunities down both flanks. Eventual Man of the Match Bin had a moment to forget however as he tried to cream a half volley into the roof of the net only to hit the side netting. More was expected of someone who has been bragging of his cricketing skills for 2 years now (I guess we will only find out how good he is during the summer when LUMHCFCCC put on the whites).
The half ended 4-1 with goals from Bin and Buster, possibly Lancaster’s finest half of hockey all season. With the game all but won Lancaster took their foot off the gas and cruised to a 7-2 victory despite ten minutes in the second half where they lost the ability to pass to one of their team mates.
All in all, a successful game with an impressive first half performance, now onto the cup match with Newcastle 3s to bring the winning run to 10 games.
