Gaston with all of the details
After a disappointing loss to Liverpool John Moores in the previous game the 1st XI were keen to get back to winning ways against Kendal 1s. Issues with umpires meant the game was moved forward to a bright and early 11.30 pushback, only to find a game was being played beforehand. An impromptu game of catch the tail took place with resident Spaniard Bertie winning. Eventually the teams got onto the pitch and were able to play some hockey.
Lancaster started quickly with a new warm up routine possibly the reason. Instead of their usual slow start Lancaster took the lead through Pete, who has finally begun to get some goals, with a deft deflection. Good hockey was played throughout the half but the scores remained 1-0 until late on when Lancaster won a short. With no Buster in the match day squad Mincy stepped up and calmly slotted past the man on the post to make the score 2-0.
Although the first half was structured with Lancaster calm in possession the second half couldn’t have been much different. Lancaster lost their new “fluid” game plan, introduced by Nick Gravy, in the second half and the game became an end to end high intensity affair. Although both teams managed to have chances the best of these fell to the home side with Pete managing to tap in another goal to make it 3-0. The nail was put in the coffin when Dynamo continued his goal scoring form. Gaston somehow ended up getting dick of the day even though he played an absolute stormer at the back. A three way tie for man of the match between Beryl, Drillan and Pete resulted in a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Drillan ended up the eventual winner and duly sank his bottle of wine at social.
All in all, a good performance from the boys with lots to work on. The main positives coming from the game was the clean sheet and the forwards continuing to get good deflections in front of the keeper.
