The 1s continue their winning streak in the league with a 4-2 win over Edge Hill
So, another week on and another nomination for Egg to write a match report. Starting to think that I am getting voted for this purely based on my narrative gift rather than on the actual events of the day.
Hey, ho, on we go.
This week saw LUMHC 1s welcome Edge Hill 1s into our house, both teams opted to warm up in the sand box which is apparently also still classed as a hockey pitch. Once a very French warm up was complete (if you don’t know what this is, ask your French neighbour), we moved onto the actual pitch to start some stick and ball foreplay. Still testing out my new shoes, I ended up on the floor several times due to me being too F A S T for them – a visit to the mechanics is required for some tuning.
Since it was the eve of Halloween it was very strange that nothing sp00ky had occurred, luckily Gas had a trick up his baguette. Instead of going for the perfectly fine formation we had been using, he hit us with a 3 at the back formation with no one actually knowing where they should have been playing except for Josh.
Anyway, game starts with a rather lively offset and a high Lancaster press regardless of whatever that mess of a formation was (please explain this to us in training next time rather than telling us 1 minute before pushback that that’s what’s happening). Some sort of magic occurs, and Tom finds himself facing the keeper, a simple V-drag allows him to slot it nicely into the goal. 1-0.
The pressure remains high for the next 15 minutes with no change to the score. Egg is substituted and Edge Hill manage to find the back of the net. Coincidence? I think not. 1-1.
Egg subs back on for the last few minutes of the 1st half, a lightning fast sprint down the line was once again too fast for his new shoes. I grazed my belly but am a tough cookie so carried on. A short corner is won when the Edge Hill right back hooked my stick and didn’t let me have it back, not very nice. Gas steps up for a drag and calmly puts it past the keeper, about time he found out how to score. 2-1
Half Time.
Understandably Chris and Nick mention the fall in tempo towards the end of the first half, these messages were taken on board in the remainder of the game. Due to no one understanding what formation we were playing we reverted to the one we actually know how to play, and everyone was happy again.
Edge Hill push back and instantly the Lancaster bois are in their face letting them know we still want to win. An LUMHC player picks up the ball on the right wing (very sorry I have no idea who this was) and pings it across the D. Callan appears from nowhere, sliding a good distance to score one of the best deflections I have seen in the last 3 days. It was actually so sexy, imagine if Rory and Gabes voices were moulded into a deflection – Yes, I know, beautiful. 3-1.
This half of the game was pretty much controlled by Lancaster with a full press for pretty much the whole 35 minutes and rather good periods of passing for once. A lovely passage led to Tom having to pull out some hands to secure his 2nd and unfortunately last goal of the game. 4 – 1.
All in all, a fun game.
MoM: Cal of course
