The 1s are back with a BUCS game and we’re here with a huge grudge match against Manchester Met 1s. The winner of this game takes a huge step towards fighting for promotion into the hallowed div 1 northern. Before the game had even started a couple of the boys were down in spirits because of the horrendous weather tropical lancs had put up for us with some pretty heavy rain and wind to go with it, yours courtesy of storm Dennis. But never mind, captain fantastic Gasp delivered some wise words and then put himself on the bench to start with which was quite entertaining. This lifted everyone’s spirits and made us ready for what was going to be a tough game for the bois. One of the points cap gave to us was the man met kids were going to be a little violent and really up for this game which was definitely the case in the first 10 minutes when poor tackles were flying in left, right and centre from them whereas ours were impeccable as per. The first half was actually a really close game for some reason, even some of the old boys who had come back to watch stated that we were making this team look pretty decent, when in actually fact, they were not. Wasn’t a very eye catching half from us but with a nice little goal from debutant Farrar bought us up and then some particularly average defending from our back 5 with a special shout out to our welsh keeper who let the weakest shot through his legs. 1-1 going into half time. The highlight of the opening 35 was seeing bobby running for about 10 mins straight with touching the ball a grand total of 0 times, kind of sums up our performance at this point. Anyway, we started the second half on top, as us dominant males should be. Some beautiful link up, champagne hockey from GI Joe and Cal and then slipping balls behind their shoddy defence to our clinical top 3 of Perraton, Dyl and Gabe (just not in this game lol). We really had to fight hard to create our chances and were so close to finishing so many of them. A couple of shorts were won with the game closing to an end and this is where our experienced players need to step up and bury these opportunities. The first, a flick from Gaspard who dragged into the base of the post but luckily one of them lot tried to cheat again and get a head start on the number 1 route. The second short, came to chateau number 1 again and Gasp flicked it top left to actually score from a short this year J. Safe to say adrenaline was running high as we scored in the dying embers of the game. This was the spark we needed and were looking throughout the game which lead to some more attacking play down the left from big rob fraser and baby lavs. A simple ball into D gave gasp his second of the day with a second attempt sweet tomahawk across the keeper. In doing this, he may or may not have a got head a knock but all in all he wanted someone to acknowledge his goals and therefore get carried off the field as a champ… but no one did lol. Just before Genga blew for full time, fletch somehow bagged himself a goal from right half but no one talks about it apart from himself as this was probably his debut goal of the season. Full time 4-1 to Lancaster which puts us at the top of the ladder with a game in hand, very close to promotion!
It was way too cold for MoM and DoD so Gabe was stuck with writing this match report for you all to enjoy, many thanks!
