After a brief but unforgettable suspension, the boys were back in town with a reputation to renew against the famed Wilmslow. Living up to their name they were indeed slow to the start, with some quick passing and work rate in the midfield tearing apart the Saturday league side, granting a 2-0 lead with some sweaty back post action by Bob and Cal.
Unfortunately, the jubilation was short lived as it appeared the time spent away from hockey had led to a lack of fitness for the team, allowing Wilmslow to equalise before the end of the half, courtesy of some well executed short corners. If it wasn’t for some prime time goalkeeping via your very own Jellis, many more goals could have followed in the Wilmslow barrage.
Leading into the second half it appeared the two teams had reached a standstill, with 20 minutes passing goal-free, until the opposing team went into 6th gear and made it 5-2. A valiant final effort from the boys with a return to a smooth and silky style of hockey that put the Wilmslow posse to shame throughout the pitch sadly only netted 1 goal, although returning much of the Lancaster men’s honour alongside, making for an end score of 5-3, and keeping consistent with the Saturday league point tally.
